Long Exposure Photography – Full Day Workshop
Participating in my ‘Long Exposure’ photography workshop is designed to allow you to explore your creativity and further develop your own style.
Picking up your camera and exploring new photographic opportunities will always motivate and inspire you to grow as a photographer. However, transforming what you see into something otherworldly is addictive.
Create Fine Art with Long Exposure
I love creating fine art prints from a view that cannot be created in reality or in post shoot software.
This workshop will give you the opportunity to explore your creativity and produce unique results.
It is fact that as humans the way we grow and learn best is by trial and error. Making mistakes is the best way to learn. Having someone there to feed you the knowledge and guide you along the way, is priceless.
This course will allow you to experiment with long exposures, and taking full control of your camera in manual mode.
Share and compare your results with other photographers who share your passion for photography, and who are at a similar skill level to you.
This course, as with all of my others, allows you to learn from an expert while developing your confidence.
It’s school Jim, but Not as we Know it!
Only those of a certain age will get that reference 🙂
As a fully qualified teacher with more than a decade of teaching experience under my belt, I am comfortable with communicating the knowledge and skills necessary to get you using the creative zones on your camera; but more importantly I will get the best out of you.
I will ensure that every single student gets the level of support they need and will be on hand to offer help as needed.
I will help you master technical skills while providing ample time for you to explore your own style.
With expert guidance your creative insight becomes more acute allowing you to develop your own personal style throughout my photography courses.
Long Exposure Photography Workshop
Take your photography to the next level by shifting onto full manual. Take control of aperture, ISO and shutter speed in a creative way.
A photography workshop is the perfect opportunity to practice and develop your skills as a photographer.
Under the supervision of a knowledgeable professional and with the support of peers you will develop the proficiency required to create striking images.
Participating in this particular workshop is an opportunity to learn how long exposures can produce stunning results.
I will cover:
- Using manual mode
- ISO
- Aperture
- Shutter speed
As a professional photographer I spend the majority of my time in AV mode, (Aperture Value), but during this workshop you will be working in manual.
In a well run workshop you will be encouraged to create the composition ‘in camera’. This is the essence of photography.
During the workshop you will be given ample time and opportunity to practice what you learn.
The workshop runs at several great locations in the Shrewsbury area.
These fabulous locations enables you to learn technical skills and theory ‘in the field’, putting your new knowledge to use immediately. The more you practice your new skills, the more you develop your photography skills, the longer they will stay with you.
Repetition & Refinement is Key
The goal is to make the process of creating ‘photographs of which you are proud’ second nature. Getting the process down pat will free you to pursue artistic vision.
Get instant constructive feedback on your images
As a teacher I understand that feedback and the opportunity to improve is vital in the learning process. Consequently you will receive feedback and pointers on how to improve throughout the day.
Feedback, not only from me but from your peers can provide rewarding insights into how others perceive your work and how you can improve your photography.
Workshop environments should never be a one way street. Interaction between individuals, the group and the instructor are all valuable learning experiences.
Make friends and have a lot of FUN!
Photography is an activity often seen as a solo pursuit, so the rewards gained from participating in a workshop are many. There is the energy and dynamics created when you bring together a group of like minded individuals with a common goal. Plus there are the many opportunities to share knowledge and experience.
And last there is the camaraderie, through which new friendships as well as you learn to develop your photography skills.
Completing this course will help you:
- build your confidence levels with using manual mode
- pick the best composition for the shot you want to capture
- understand the correct settings for different scenarios
- understand the relationship between ISO, Aperture & Shutter Speed
Who is the workshop for?
The course is aimed at those who are proficient with their DSLR but want to take their skills to another level.
It is great for those photographers who want to produce images that have that ‘wow’ factor. Images that you just don’t see everywhere because of their technical difficulty.
Proposed Learning Path
Section 1 – personalise Your Camera functions
Understanding your camera functions, how to set up and using custom functions is sometimes the difference between a good shot and a great shot.
Section 2 – setting up manual mode
The command dial varies from camera to camera, but no matter what the modes are called they all do the same job. Most experienced users stick with either manual or aperture value. These two modes give a photographer the most control over the final image.
Section 3 – Understanding the importance of Composition
Have you ever wondered why, when you look at two very similar images, you are drawn to one over the other? This is usually because the image which draws your eye follows fundamental photography rules, including great composition.
Section 4 – the art of using foreground interest and framing
Particularly noticeable in landscapes, the lack of foreground interest or a frame for your image can leave it missing something. Have you ever wondered why you just cannot put your finger on the reason why the image does not seem to ‘work’.
Section 5 – Practical Application of Manual mode
Combining ISO, Aperture and Shutter speed in manual mode is quite confusing at the beginning.
Practice makes perfect. That’s why you will always have ample time to put your new found theoretical knowledge to use in a nurturing environment; this together with advice, guidance and immediate feedback that will help you improve, is a winning combination.
